Podcast
The Social Prescription is producing season of podcasts titled: Not Broken.
Too many people are led to believe they have broken brains (chemical imbalance, neurodevelopmental disorder, genetic illness etc). We want to promote other ways of thinking about distress – life is complex and there are often good reasons for us to feel bad. That isn’t usually an illness but a signal that something needs to change or that there is grief or loss, or unspoken/unrecognised feelings to be dealt with.
Episodes will include interviews with: Dr Mark Horowitz, about his and others experience with antidepressant withdrawal and deprescribing; Prof Fran Baum, an international authority on Social Determinants of Health; a lived experience consultant for whom unemployment led to suicidal thinking; Prof David Caldwell on why language matters when we describe distress; and a health navigator talking about social prescribing.
